In 2018, we teamed up with local artists and bands to create and perform songs for an awareness campaign highlighting some of our products and services. Continuing into 2020, we built on those relationships and brought Swayyvo and Call Me Spinster back in for a groundbreaking, never-done-before video shoot inside our TVFCU headquarters. When production of the commercials was finished, we decided to go one step further. We offered to help Swayyvo achieve his dream of making a music video for his new single, “Zone”.
The song is about his young daughters. It's a story about Swayyvo feeling frustrated and tired as he looks for meaning and satisfaction in the wrong things. As he works through these feelings he rediscovers that the most important parts of his life were right under his nose: his daughters, his family, his community.
Swayyvo’s fresh perspective on family and community really hit home with us because TVFCU is committed to helping our members improve their lives and strengthen the communities we serve.
The playful display of multiple Swayyvo's has been present from the beginning, since director Josh Locy's behind-the-scenes "Swayyvo on Swayyvo" interview - seen here. This idea evolved in our latest campaign into a series of commercials where Swayyvo plays a handful of characters - seen here and here.
In the music video, we see Swayyvo endlessly rehearse stereotypical lives he imagined would make him happy. Each time, there is something wrong with the imaginary world he built for himself; something fundamental is missing. The music video ends with a knock on the door as a forlorn Swayyvo sits on the empty set. He gets up, opens the door, and finds that everyone is there for him. He literally and metaphorically lets them in. He joyously dances with his friends while embracing his actual daughters, one in each arm.
The video was shot just weeks before our first shelter-in-place order. Its message is even more relevant today as we all look for unique ways to bring our communities together.

Lyrics
Real love
Something I been trying to find
Where you been?
You got here just in time
I think this something I been waiting for
I been asking if it’s something that I’m ready for
I was out looking for love in the trash can
Almost thought there was nobody out there
Then I found you then you put me in the zone
When I’m with you I feel like i be in my zone
When I’m sleeping your love is all I can dream of
When you leave me baby you all that I can think of
Can’t nothing come in between us but the road
I can’t help it that we connected at the soul
Show me how to love how you do that
This my heart better watch where you shoot at
When I’m with you I feel like I be in my zone
When I’m with you I feel like I be in the zone
This time last year used to hate love
Been through so much almost gave up
Every time I felt like it was something missing
Then I met you and then you showed me something different
Heart on lock down was letting no one in
I was shutting people down for they even begin
can’t imagine me living my life without you
Had to sit down and write me a song about you
Lost my mind to describe what it feel like
If a bird lost its wing but it still flies
You the one you the one help me realize
Love really do exist in the Real life
When I’m sleeping your love is all I can dream of
When you leave me baby you all that I can think of
Can’t nothing come in between us but the road
I can’t help it that we connected at the soul
Show me how to love how you do that
This my heart better watch where you shoot at
When I’m with you I feel like I be in my zone
When I’m with you I feel like I be in the zone

On first listen Zone sounds like a feel good jam, but the content under the surface suggests deeper narratives Swayyvo is addressing.
